A new look for Kings Ridge

The 2022 vintage brings a fresh, new look to the Kings Ridge brand. Our new labels bring focus to the wine and where the wine comes from; the Willamette Valley in Oregon. We love that they are simple and pop with colors that are reminiscent of the evergreen trees and pink sunsets we enjoy so much here in the valley.

Kings Ridge is a journey through the Willamette Valley AVA, a journey of winemaking, of stories told through vintages, and the opportunities and challenges each presents. It tells the story of the pursuit to create a high quality wine that can meet people where they are in their journey with wine, at an accessible price. And it celebrates the abundance and generosity of the Willamette Valley and the community that lives and works there.

It shares the journey of exploration and innovation Union Wine Company takes as it addresses some of the biggest issues impacting wine and the valley, from climate to labor practices to equitable ecosystem—the ongoing quest to find reciprocity.

Kings Ridge Pinot Noir

Willamette Valley

The 2022 Kings Ridge Pinot Noir was sourced predominately from Crowe Hill Vineyard, one of our estate vineyards, with the remainder from vineyards located in nearly all the Willamette Valley sub-AVAs. The small and medium sized open-top fermenters were filled with a mix of destemmed and whole-cluster fruit, allowed to ferment naturally and was left on skins for 12 to 16 days. The wines were gently pressed and allowed to age in barrel for eight months prior to bottling. The resulting wine is a compelling blend of dark and red fruits, intriguing barrels spice, rich supple tannins and a fresh acidity that brings life and vibrancy to this delicious wine.

Kings Ridge Pinot Gris

Willamette Valley

The Kings Ridge Pinot Gris is made with hand-harvested Pinot Gris grapes, primarily from vineyards on the eastern side of the Willamette Valley belonging to and farmed by two of our favorite growers: Bernie Bielenberg and Gayle Goschie.

This fruit was harvested throughout the second and third weeks of October, pressed whole cluster, clarified using floatation, allowed to ferment slowly at cool temperatures over 4-5 weeks in contact with a judicious volume of lees to elicit texture and palate breadth before being blended and bottled at the end of January. Fermentation was halted with just under 2.5 g/L residual sugar for plumpness to fill out
around the zesty acidity of the 2022 vintage.

Tasting Notes: Lemon Verbena, White Peach, Honeysuckle

2022 – 91 Points Best Buy

This is crisp, clean fun, with frisky acidity and a whole lot of citrus. Aromas of lemon, spearmint, beeswax and yeast join forces to give the impression of a lemon poppy seed cupcake. The flavors of lemon zest, olive oil, juniper berries and lemon verbena go on for a good long while.

2022 – 91 Points

A fruity pinot gris with a fragrant nose of green apples, rosemary, flowers and white pears. Fresh and crisp, with a medium body. I like the subtle herb notes at the end. Vegan. Drink now. Screw cap.
